TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –

The 5-8 guard from Arlington, Texas, appeared in 77 games, including 20 starts, for Kentucky.

Conwright will sit out the 2013-14 season per NCAA transfer rules.

Maegan will contribute at multiple perimeter positions for us. She has played in some big games and is a relentless, tenacious player who will help take this program to the next level.”

Conwright averaged 4.8 points and 1.2 steals in 18.9 minutes and played in six NCAA Tournament games during her career at Kentucky. She reached double figures in scoring eight times and had a career-best 15 points against Miami (Ohio) in 2010.

Against Jacksonville State in 2011, Conwright tallied 10 points, three steals and a career-best seven assists.

She played in 33 games as freshman in 2010-11, averaging 6.2 points and making 11 starts. During her sophomore year in 2011-12, Conwright appeared in 34 games, including five starts. Conwright’s junior season was cut short by a knee injury after just 10 games.

Conwright was a four-year letterwinner and a three-year starter at Timberview High School. She led the Wolves to a 39-2 record and a state title her senior, averaging 15.5 points, 4.5 steals and 3.0 assists and capturing 2010 Ft. Worth Star Telegram Girls Player of the Tear and 2010 Texas 4A State Tournament MVP honors along the way.

Conwright was ranked the 35th-best guard in the nation by ESPN HoopGurlz in 2010 and was a McDonald’s All-American nominee and a MaxPreps Girls Basketball All-American honorable mention. She was an all-state and all-region selection, and a three-time District 4-5A Most Valuable Player.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State women’s basketball head coach Sue Semrau announced the addition of transfer point guard Shakena Richardson on Wednesday.

Richardson appeared in 59 games, with 12 starts, for Rutgers the past two seasons (2011-13).

Per NCAA transfer rules, Richardson will sit out the 2013-14 season, but will have two years of eligibility remaining for the Garnet and Gold.

“In order to remain one of the country’s top programs we must have strong point guard play,” Semrau said. “Shakena joins a long line of excellent floor generals at Florida State. She will be mentored by senior Cheetah Delgado this season and be ready to step in as a veteran and leader as Cheetah graduates. Shakena brings so many skills and intangibles to the floor. She is quick, scores well – both in the paint and from the perimeter – and, of course, loves to set the table for her teammates.”

The 5-4 guard was ranked the No. 4 point guard and No. 18 overall player by ESPN in the 2011 recruiting class coming out of Neptune (N.J.) High School after averaging 13.8 points, 3.0 assists and 4.0 steals per game her senior season. She led Neptune to an 89-4 record her last three seasons and was a three-time All-State and All-Shore selection.

During her sophomore season at Rutgers in 2012-13, Richardson averaged 5.0 points, 2.7 assists, 1.4 steals and 19.7 minutes in 30 games, including 11 starts. She stepped her game up down the stretch for the Scarlet Knights, increasing her averages to 5.5 points, 3.1 assists, 1.7 steals and 22.3 minutes in 16 Big East Conference games.

Her best performance came against Pittsburgh in the final game of the 2012-13 regular season when she tallied career highs in points (15), assists (seven) and steals (four), and made 5 of 6 field goal attempts over 35 minutes in a 65-44 victory.

A 2012 FSU graduate and a three-time All-ACC selection, Bravard is one of 11 players on the Storm roster.

Bravard ranks in the top 10 in FSU history in scoring, rebounds and blocks. The 6-4 Sandusky, Ohio, native was an All-ACC First Team pick and captured honorable mention All-America honors in 2011 before nabbing All-ACC Third Team accolades in 2012. She was named to the ACC All-Freshman Team in 2009.

Bravard, who spent training camp with the San Antonio SilverStars in 2012, averaged 8.6 points and 4.3 boards while shooting 52 percent from the floor last season for Spain’s Uni Girona team.

Former Nole star Roneeka Hodges is also on a WNBA roster. The 2005 FSU graduate and one-time All-ACC First Team selection will begin her ninth professional season with the Tulsa Shock. A 5-11 shooting guard, Hodges has played in 230 WNBA games with 85 starts and has a 6.2 points per game average in her career.

The Storm opens its season on Sunday at 6 p.m. PT when it hosts the Phoenix Mercury and 2013 No. 1 overall pick Brittney Griner.

The Shock begins its season on Saturday at 7 p.m. against the Atlanta Dream in Atlanta.

Rodriguez Signs Professional Contract with Top Spanish Club

The former Seminole shooting guard led FSU in scoring in 2012-13 

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Former Florida State guard Leonor Rodriguez signed a professional contract with one of the Spanish League’s top clubs, Perfumerias Avenida Salamanca, earlier this week.

A Canary Islands, Spain, native, Rodriguez capped her collegiate career with a sensational senior season in 2012-13, leading FSU in scoring at 14.9 points per game, while nabbing All-ACC First Team honors. She scored 20 or more points 10 times and was one of the nation’s most improved players, increasing her points per game average by over 10.0 ppg.

“I’m really happy and excited to play professionally in my home country on a great team,” Rodriguez said. “I had a great four years at Florida State and it helped me grow as a person and as an athlete. I will always be proud to say I’m a member of the Seminole family.”

Rodriguez has been a mainstay on Spanish national teams for years, including at the FIBA 3×3 World Championships in Greece in 2012, the U20 European Championship in 2011 and U20 World Championship in 2010.

Perfumerias is one of the top clubs in Europe and was the Euroleague champion in 2011. Rodriguez will be on the team with former Duke star Krystal Thomas, who is also the sister of Alexa Deluzio, another former Nole, who wrapped up her Seminole career this past spring.
